Wow! Just where on earth did this year go? I say this all the time but with each year that passes time just seems to fly by faster than the previous! 2018 for me was one of those years that didn’t have a lot going on but still had some little moments that seemed to shine a little bit brighter than the rest. So here’s 8 of those stellar moments that either made my year, taught me something or was just plain awesome!
A YEAR FOR BAKING
So we’ll start off with the fact this year I’ve been perfecting my baking skills one hell of a lot. I’ve made carrot cake cupcakes, fairy cakes, shortbread, chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread biscuits and even a bloody pineapple upside down. I’m no expert with the icing and decorating and baking in the hot summer is one I’m going to remember because all the decor was just melting away! But baking this autumn really helped set me in ‘Christmassy mood’ it helps that I was playing Christmas songs as I painted faces on the gingerbread biscuits.
SEEING MY SOCIETY COME TO LIFE
The beginning of 2018 really set things in motion for the K-POP Society I started at the end of 2017. We were finally able to have weekly meetups, and I was surrounded by such a great bunch of people. I looked forward to meeting every Thursday on campus from 4-6pm and seeing everyone so happy to see each other. Running my very own society was thoroughly memorable, and although I decided to hand over my presidency to focus on my second year of university, I wouldn’t change the memories or decisions I made at all.
SURVING YEAR ONE AT UNIVERSITY
Once again, my friends, I live on! Year one at university was an experience all right. From starting my society to working with some difficult people and completing the year its safe to say I am proud of what I have achieved. Freshmen year for me wasn’t your typical clubbing and going out experience but one where I took the time to focus on myself and surround myself with good people and lots of coffee.
TRYING KOREAN FOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME
For my 19th Birthday, I finally made it to a Korean Restaurant here in the UK with my family. The verdict? I think I have fallen in love with Korean food. I had kimchi and Bibimbap and practically wolfed the dish down! My 19th Birthday restaurant outing was so memorable and heartwarming for me because my family really took the time to understand why I am so interested in Korean food, music and culture and I could not have been more grateful for that.
A TRIP OVER TO ROME
This Summer my family and I took a trip to Rome! I have a huge blog post to write on this entire experience because so much happened plus I took loads of photographs. But to summarise, beautiful city, amazing food, blissful weather but a lot and I mean a lot of walking.
MY FIRST CONCERT EXPERIENCE
Moving towards the fall and autumn months now! After securing my tickets for the BTS concert back in June the time finally came for me to have my first concert experience. You can read the entirety of that on this blog post here. But in all honesty, it was the most memorable nights I have had, and I’m still in utter disbelief I was part of that beautiful sea of light sticks on the 10th October 2018.
REUNITING WITH OLD FRIENDS
I may only have one friend at university, but I also have so many old high school friends who I have kept in touch with via text. This year we managed to reunite through a Whatsapp group chat which has practically lit up my miserable morning journey to university and late nights. They are the most supportive and most random bunch that I hope meet in person very soon in 2019! I also managed to reunite with an old PRIMARY SCHOOL FRIEND! Which is craaaaazy because we haven’t even seen each other in years yet found out we both loved BTS and ended up going to a concert together? I would have never guessed that would happen this year at all.
BECOMING A MUCH HAPPIER AND INDEPENDENT PERSON
I think this year I took a lot of time to just focus on myself and university. I worried less about what other people were getting up to at university and focused more on making my experience special. Even if I wasn’t going out in the evenings, I spent time with old high school friends over the summer and had countless memorable day outings with them. I was a lot more independent in choosing what I wanted to do and arranging meets with my friends which I have to admit did make me feel a little bit like an adult. It wasn’t the most eventful year like 2017, but it was certainly more peaceful with all the positive and good people I surrounded myself with.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2019?
Unbelievably I have no idea what to expect in 2019. I think I am just going to see where the year takes me and what obstacles might get thrown in my face. So 2019 could swing either way it could either be spontaneous or just plain. Although I do have a few little goals, I want to achieve like snagging an internship in the summer months and maybe starting to think about having driving lessons. I also say every year I want to have more of a presence on my blog, but for now, I’m set on blogging when I feel like it so its something I want to do not that I have to.
I’m hoping to kick butt in 2019 and see what the world throws at me next. So right now 2019 is going to be an unpredictable year but I can’t wait…
