NOW IT TOOK ME A LITTLE BIT LONGER TO FINISH THIS BOOK PARTIALLY BECAUSE I GOT A BIT LAZY OVER THE WEEKEND AND I JUST DIDN’T READ MUCH IF I HAD READ THAT WEEKEND THIS REVIEW WOULD HAVE BEEN UP SOONER! BUT I REALLY ENJOYED CITY OF GLASS AND I’M GLAD I TOOK MY TIME TO READ IT BECAUSE IT WAS NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOMENESS! SO LET’S DIVE INTO THE NON SPOILER REVIEW FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK!
WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT? (TAKEN FROM GOODREADS)
To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there! As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third instalment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.
Well if the first section of this review hasn’t intrigued you allow me to explain how good this book was in a non spoilery way! So much happened it this book however it was almost too hard to keep track of everything that happened in this book! There were some fabulous plot twists which I did not see coming at all! I found myself liking a few characters a lot more in this book particularly Simon who has gone through so much development and you can defiantly see changes in his character from book one! Now Clary I wasn’t exactly fond of in book 1 but I began to like her more in book 2 and by this book I was fully in love with her! She constantly shows strength and courage which I admire so much about her she is also smart and witty! The relationships in this book are defiantly stepped up another level which I also loved... The ending to this book leaves you feeling so satisfied which was something I was extremely happy about!
So that’s all for the non spoiler review guys! I am now going to go down into the spoiler section where I will be discussing my favourite scenes from the book!
So since this book has so much happening I have decided to pick out a few of scenes and talk about them. Because If I went and talked about each character this review would be very long indeed!
So the first scene I have chosen is the scene where Jace, Simon and Lightwoods are all going off to Idris. However, Simon was never part of the plan to come. When Jace talks to Simon about lying to Clary then suddenly the forsaken come out and of course Jace whips his blades out… Now I really enjoyed this scene particularly because we open the first chapter on some really good action and I was drawn into the book so quickly! I mean how on earth does Cassandra pull me into a book after one chapter?
The second scene was not my favourite at all but I just had to put it in here because of how much I hated it… Some you may know what I’m talking about but Jace and Aline kissing I was so angry about to make things worse Clary freaking walked in a saw them! I was really upset by this and at this point I really didn’t like Aline at all! But not only do Jace and Aline kiss but Clary and Sebastian do… I was literally thinking what the hell is going on people! Like seriously are you just going around kissing anyone now? It was pure craziness I tell you!
The third scene well really three scenes was with Magnus Bane as you all know he is my absolute favourite character in this series... The first scene was when he posed as Ragnor Fell which had me laughing so much especially when he told Sebastian that he had to have an appointment! Another scene was when he was seen on the roof top fighting demons I think it was and Alec saves his life and Magnus admits he loves Alec and I will quote this “You love me” Alec said “You stupid Nephillim. Why else am I here?” And to make things better the third scene that had me smiling stupidly at whilst reading was when Alec and Magnus kissed! I ship Malec so much guys!
Two scenes’ that broke my heart was the one with Ithuriel… Those who have read TID know what I’m talking about… How could Valentine do that? I felt so sorry for Ithuriel for the things the angel saw Valentine do and how the angel suffered! And Max dying doesn’t get me started on that… It was so sad! He was so young! Ave Ateque Vale Max! Since we are talking about death I might as well mention Hodge dying which was a huge shock to me I just wasn’t expecting it at all! I think Hodge is a misunderstood character in these three books in my opinion…
Okay and finally I shall talk about the last few scene of the book… I read Chapter 20 at school and I was having such a hard time containing how I felt when I was reading this! When Jace nearly died freaking twice well technically he did once… But I was screaming internally when Valentine drove the sword into Jace! But I’m so glad that Valentine’s plan failed and not only that his plan caused his death… Most of all I was so happy that Angel Raziel brought Jace back to life as a wish from Clary! The ending to this book was so satisfying... Valentine is dead, Magnus and Alec are together, Clary and Jace are together, Simon has two girls after him and Luke and Jocelyn are finally a couple after 20 freaking years… They sure took their time to get together right guys…
But I was left with questions… Why did the Seelie Queen ask a favour from Clary? Where is Sebastian’s body? Is Sebastian alive still? What is next for the Shadowhunters?
